4/25/2004: gmail

So blogger is letting its users sign up for the new Google email service, gmail. I'm giving it a whirl, despite a lot of the recent privacy concerns about the service (for instance, google archives your emails potentially forever, even if you quit their service, and they search thru your inbox in order to present relevant ads). Still, I bet they have better spam blocking than my old hotmail account had, and it's worth a free trial.

4/10/2004: on vacation

While people at work are slaving away on the new project, I'm taking a few days of vacation, visiting Micaela's family in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Last night, for the second time, I cooked some carribean-style fish which was inspired by dishes at the Green Street Grill. The marinade/spice rub that went on it went something like this:
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 3-4 tsp. ground cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 tsp. curry powder
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • juice from half a lime
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
-- enough to coat one or two salmon steaks. I broiled the salmon, and served it with some pico de gallo type stuff (but with avocados), and some coconut rice (both with plenty of cilantro). It was good.
